RECIPE: R.I.P. Pudding

Four years ago, my then 10-year-old daughter decided she wanted to have a Halloween party with her friends at our house.

Four years later, she still asks for a Halloween party.

The collection of decorations has grown tenfold.ย  So have the Halloween treats I’ve baked.ย  These days, however, I leave the decorating (and cleaning!) to my daughter and her friends while I happily do the baking.ย  I rather like this arrangement.ย  ๐Ÿ™‚

Another addition to our Halloween recipe collection are these R.I.P. Puddings.ย  I stumbled across these while thumbing through the September issue of Rachael Ray’s magazine EveryDay.ย  One glance at the picture and recipe and I was sold.ย  This recipe is quick, simple, has easy to find ingredients to make pretty spooky-looking graveyards with lots of dark chocolate cookie crumbs and icing going on.

So off to the store I went to buy three of the four ingredients I needed.ย  I had the chocolate chips.ย  Duh – chocoholics always have a bag (or two) of chocolate chips, right? ๐Ÿ™‚

Making these tombstone puddings turned out to be as simple as they looked.ย  I just whipped up the instant pudding (much prefer homemade, but time is always an issue in our house), crumbed up some Oreo cookies, wrote “R.I.P.” with melted chocolate chips on the Milano cookies, assembled everything and DONE!

These were almost too easy.ย  But, I’m not complaining!

And they taste just as good as they look.ย  Smooth, creamy pudding with a sprinkle of crushed Oreo cookies in each bite.ย  So good!ย  The Milano cookies are also pretty dang good dipped in the pudding, by the way.ย  Just don’t leave them in too long so they don’t get soggy.

RECIPE: R.I.P. Pudding

Yield: 12

Prep Time: 20

Total Time: 20


2 boxes chocolate pudding
12 Oreo cookies
12 Milano cookies
1/4 Cup chocolate chips


Make instant chocolate pudding according to package directions and pour into serving bowls. Refrigerate to set.

Remove frosting from 12 Oreo cookies. Place cookie halves in a Ziploc bag and crush with a rolling pin until a mixture of fine and pea-size cookie crumbs. Set aside.

Microwave 1/4 cup chocolate chips at 50% power and transfer to Ziploc bag. Snip 1/4-inch off a corner and squeeze bag to write "R.I.P." on each Milano cookie. Refrigerate to set.

Assemble each graveyard pudding by standing one Milano cookie in each pudding. Sprinkle crushed Oreo cookies on top of the pudding and around the tombstones.
