RECIPE: Chocolate & Watermelon Smoothie

RECIPE: Chocolate & Watermelon Smoothie

Watermelons are so delicious when they’re fully ripe.  Their sweetness is simply addictive.  I love watermelon! 🙂

I don’t know how many watermelons you buy during the year, but in our family it’s safe to say we buy only one.  One of the reasons is because they take up a lot of space.  Yes, I know they sell mini watermelons, but the store I was at didn’t have them at the time I was in my watermelon mood.  So there!

Soooo, last weekend we had the medium-to-large watermelon consuming the top and bottom portions of our refrigerator and it was getting riper by the day.  We needed to eat it up.  Quick!

Then I thought, “Smoothie!”  I also remembered recently reading that unsweetened baking cocoa is the best form of chocolate to get the most antioxidants.  “Let’s combine watermelon and baking cocoa and see how that tastes!”

So I got out the blender.  Added a couple of bananas, cubed seedless watermelon.  A bit of unsweetened baking cocoa and milk and hit the smoothie button for 30 seconds or so.

Sip, sip, slurp.  Not bad, but it needed some honey to balance out the unsweetened baking cocoa.

That’s better!  Fruity watermelon flavor with a layer of chocolate.  Believe it or not, it’s pretty dang good but it needed to chill for an hour or so, so I put it in the refrigerator for an hour or so.

Much better!  Sip, sip, slurp… GONE!

As always, ENJOY! 🙂

I’m not a fan of watermelon flavor but I have to wonder if mixed with chocolate, I may actually like it because that sounds good.

Hi Cat! I recall you like white chocolate. Not sure how that would taste with watermelon though. Hmmm. now that I mention it though, a nice iced white chocolate coffee sounds really good right now. 😀

I would never think to combine chocolate and watermelon! But I do love me some chocolate smoothies, so I may have to give it a try next time I’m wondering what the heck to do with all that watermelon in the fridge. 🙂

It’s pretty good. Just go into it with an open mind knowing it’s not going to taste like super fattening ice cream. It’s healthy, yet tasty and refreshing! 😀

Being a chocolate lover, I couldn’t wait to try these, so I fixed them after dinner for the family. They definitely had an unique flavor.

The family vote was that they were ok, but they didn’t make the list of things they wanted me to fix again.

One of our favorite recipes is almost identical to this one but doesn’t have the watermelon.

There are several other recipes on this site that I am equally excited to try so I’ll let you know the verdict…lol:)
