Food Coma – Why Do We Do It?

Food and feet.  Normally they don’t belong together.  The other night they did.

Well, sorta.

Last weekend, my husband and I attended a fun and super tasty food and wine event north of Seattle called Taste With Tommy.  I won two tickets to this event when I attended a Foodportunity networking party last month and my business card was pulled for their main raffle prize.  Yay me!  Now I can’t say I never win anything. :)

Needless to say, there was plenty of food and wine to be had, all with a southern flair.  Can we say Cajun food?  My husband and I ate spicy chicken salads served in martini glasses, pulled pork and crab cake sliders, salmon grits, spicy potato salad, skewered veggies and meats, spicy pizza and an uber yummy slab of meat I forgot the name of.  My husband thought it was the best item on the menu.  About three or four items into the dinner I was already S-T-U-F-F-E-D.  But it was so good!

The wines were awesome too.  All reds and drier than dust.  We love them like this – a lot!  In fact, we left with three bottles.  As if our wine cellar laundry room shelf needed more.  Not!

But to me, the best part of the menu were the desserts.  After all, it’s all about sugar, sugar, sugar!

They had Pecan Pralines and Sweet Potato Meringue Tarts.  The meringue was THE best I’d had in over 10 years when my grandma made her to-die-for lemon meringue pies.  I don’t eat a lot of desserts that include meringue, but when it touched my tongue, I immediately recognized it as the real stuff.  Yum-O! The rest of the tart was pretty good too.

As for the Almond Praline, I’m not so sure I’ve ever had one before.  I didn’t care for it because I don’t like pecans and the cookie part was very dense.  In fact, if no one was looking I would have just chewed the chocolate off and left the rest.  But at least I tried it.  It’s a pet peeve of mine when somebody says they don’t like something and has never tried it.

Last but not least, Banana Pudding Parfait.  Yummy, yummy, yummy.  Add some chocolate shavings and it would have been superb!

And now, I think you can see that food and feet do go together, as in FOOD COMA!  It hit me hard that night.  I was so glad my husband was driving so I could tilt my seat back a little and put my feet up.  Ahhh…

It’s hard to resist good food, isn’t it?

    Have you ever had your blood sugar checked? Getting that “food coma” feeling could ne a sign of diabetes.

      Oops, I guess I used the wrong word. When I say coma, I really mean super STUFFED. Sorry for my poor choice of words!

    That pecan praline looks out of this world! And food comas are kinda the best. I feel so tired and lethargic but the feeling of being satisfied with so much good food is the best. Thanksgiving Day food comas are my favorite. But I wouldn’t mind a food coma from all of YOUR chocolate recipes :)

      I agree with you on Thanksgiving Day being the best for food comas. It’s inevitable! I try not to stuff myself too much, but the food at this event was free, so I said what the heck!
