RECIPE: Giant Triple Chocolate Donut

RECIPE: Giant Triple Chocolate Donut

Check out my Giant Triple Chocolate Donut! Doesn’t it look delicious?

It was just about the best Chocolate “donut” cake I’ve ever had.

Let’s make one! :)

giant donut mold

I used these giant donuts molds I ordered from a neighbor girl’s school fundraiser and as well as a box cake mix.  I know this picture is probably a “little” suggestive.  Sorry – I promise that wasn’t my intention!!! Anyway, the donut molds!

I baked the cake for 30 minutes.

Cooled it.

Then removed it from the mold.

Unfortunately, one of the donut halves didn’t come out in one piece.  Dang it!  But never fear, I “disguised” it with a ganache so nobody would ever know!

chocolate ganache ingredients

Ganache ingredients:  1/2 C. heavy whipping cream, 8 0z. (1/2 lb.) Chopped Chocolate, 1/2 Tbsp. butter, 1/2 Tbps. of either glucose, honey or corn syrup.

chopped chocolate

While the cream boiled in a sauce pan, I chopped up the Chocolate.  I then added the Chocolate to the cream as well as the butter and one of the above mentioned sugars.

I stirred well until completely melted, then let it set for 5 minutes.

Then the fun part – I poured it over the Giant Chocolate Donut!

My daughter was itching to add some Chocolate chips. I have to admit it looked a LOT better! Plus, I could then call it a Giant Triple Chocolate Donut!

I’m sure I don’t need to tell you it was absolute Chocolate perfection, do I?

Moist.

Chocolaty.

And for lack of any better words – absolutely delicious.

Pure Chocolate heaven. :)

Have you ever made any fun cake shapes?  If so, what was it? :)

Love it! I used to be into cake decorating until blogging stole all my time. The funniest shaped cake I ever made was a Spongebob Squarepants cake – before Wilton came out with the cake mold. I made it from a sheet cake and the feet were Lil’ Debbies.
