RECIPE: Mummy and Spider Cupcakes for Halloween

RECIPE: Mummy and Spider Cupcakes for Halloween

As I mentioned in my previous post, I made a bunch of Halloween treats for my daughter’s Halloween party this weekend.

These Mummy and Spider Cupcakes also made their appearance at the party! I can’t remember which website I found these on, but I can’t take credit for the idea.  I’m pretty good at copying though! 🙂

While I usually post step-by-step instructions for the recipes on here, I’m hoping you’ll give me a pass this time since I was up until 2:30AM (Yes, I said A.M.!!!) with some of the girls.  Those that know me will be shocked to hear this since I do not make that a habit, to say the least. 😛

Anyway, I think these look somewhat self-explanatory for assembling. I made red velvet cupcakes as well as Chocolate (duh!).  I used box mixes since I work full-time out of the home and was busting my butt get all the other foods items ready for the party and not trying to be Martha Stewart. Har har!

So I’ll break down the ingredient list for each cupcake type like this:

Mummy Cupcakes

  • Chocolate or Red Velvet Cupcakes
  • White Frosting (I used cream cheese)
  • Red Hot Candies – eyes
  • Ziplock sandwich bag for applying the frosting

Spider Cupcakes

  • Chocolate or Red Velvet Cupcakes
  • Dark Chocolate Frosting
  • Chocolate Sprinkles (optional)
  • Red Hot Candies – eyes
  • Black Licorice Strings or regular sized and cut to shape – legs
  • Marshmallows (cut to shape) – fangs

So there you go – mummy and spider cupcakes!  The only thing that was hard to do were the spider legs since the store I went to didn’t have the black string licorice.  So I just cut up the regular black licorice instead.  They weren’t hard to do, just time-consuming.  Still, they worked!

Once again, I had a blast making these.  So fun making something new.

Happy Halloween! 🙂
