You’re Too Old for the Tooth Fairy

Lost ToothLast weekend my 10-year-old daughter pulled out her loose tooth, smiled and said, “You owe me a dollar!”

Needless to say, I was less than thrilled with her choice of words. Kids!

“You’re too old for the Tooth Fairy with a statement like that”, I said.

Then I got to thinking, when do other parents stop being the Tooth Fairy?

My daughter has known for quite a while the Tooth Fairy doesn’t exist, but we continued for a while longer, pretending she still believed.

It then got to the point where it was very difficult to sneak into her room (she’s a light sleeper like me), slip a hand under the pillow and exchange the tooth for a dollar.  Sometimes she woke up right when I was opening her door or when my husband would start to lean over her bed.  I’m sure it was those times when she figured out the Tooth Fairy was mom and dad.

At first I was sad when the mystery of it all was gone for her.  Then I was relieved since most times I never had the appropriate change to give her.  Sorry, I’m not parting with my $5 or $10 bill for a dang tooth!

So I leave this question to you parents reading this: What age was your child when you stopped being the Tooth Fairy?

I’d love to hear your stories.

My 11 yr old just tried to pull the same thing. And my response was eerily similar to yours. Sorry kids, once you’ve become a non-believer then you’re a non-receiver.

Wow, what a GREAT response, “Sorry kids, once you’ve become a non-believer then you’re a non-receiver.” I’ll have to remember that one. Thanks! :)

I don’t remember the age when I stopped, but I remember the beginning with my 1st daughter. The day she lost the first tooth she was talking on the phone to friend who was older. I could only hear her end of the conversation, but she said “So let me get this straight….. if I lose 8 teeth, I get like 8 bucks right?” I was scared to let her out of my sight!
