Damn Public Schools
Here we go again. I just discovered my 10-year-old daughter has lice again!!!
Can you believe this is about the 6th time in the last year? I’m so sick of this, it isn’t even funny.
DAMN PUBLIC SCHOOLS!
The last time she had lice was late last spring before she got out of school. I quickly got that under control and she didn’t have another episode all summer.
Until now!
This is the very reason I’ve been dreading her return to school.
With so many lice infestations, it’s now become a habit for me to check my daughter’s head every week. I check her so much I feel like Mama Monkey searching and picking for bugs. Wait a minute, maybe I am Mama Monkey? I just remembered during the last lice check, I was making the “Ooo, Ooo, Aah, Aah” noises and scratching my armpit. Har har! Whatever it takes to get through this pain in the butt situation, right?
What really irks me is lice like CLEAN hair!!! We just can’t win!
So now I get to spend the next hour or so putting the lice killing goop on all our heads, removing bugs and/or eggs, stripping our beds, vacuuming, cleaning and more cleaning. Yippie!!! I can’t wait!
NOT!!!
Happy Saturday to me!
I’m curious if you’ve had to deal with lice infestations and how you got them under control. I’ve got the whole process down to a science, but perhaps you’ve got some tricks up your sleeve you’d care to share?

So sorry to hear about your daughter & the lice problem. I remember how awful it is! When I was growing up, my mom had home daycare. I had super long hair and every time a kid brought lice to our house I got it. I remember the shampooing and the burning and the itching and having to clean everything in the house. I hope you get rid of them quickly and they will stay gone!

Thanks Shelly! I’ve come to the conclusion they won’t go away until my daughter is out of school. She has a couple of friends (who are sisters) and have VERY long, dark hair. I could see the little white eggs on their hair. I don’t feel like I can say anything to their parents. I DID email her teacher to let her know, so she can send yet another note home so the parents will hopefully check. NOT FUN!!!
So, my kids’ school was in a chronic outbreak last spring it seemed, fortunately we escaped them. However, I have gotten to learn from friends’ experiences. Here is a link for a Cetaphil treatment (much less abrasive on hair & scalp): http://www.ehow.com/how_2123367_treat-head-lice-cetaphil.html
It worked pretty well for a friend, but had to repeat treatments. Another friend swears by rosemary shampoo as a deterrent, not sure the brand, but they also make a natural treatment that works (and smells) fabulously. You can find it at Dooz hair salons for kids.
We use a solid shampoo by Lush (@B-square) that smells like a freshly paved road, but may be why we never got any lice.
Hope you don’t need any of these tips in the future!!
