After many years of wanting a laptop, I finally bit the bullet and bought one. After I placed my order, I was absolutely giddy with anticipation. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it and didn’t have one single bit of buyer’s remorse. I had done my research and knew I was getting a quality laptop and my money had been well spent.
After consulting with a friend who has owned Apple laptops for years, she suggested I buy one, but to first visit the Apple store in our local mall to see firsthand which one I liked best. After two trips to the store asking the staff numerous questions, as well as many visits to Apple.com to check out the various models, configurations and read the reviews, I finally decided to purchase one of Apple’s MacBook laptops.
To say I love it is an underestimate. I can’t get enough of the thing! I’ve only had it for a couple of weeks, but I’m already impressed with every facet of it.
Like everyone else, I wanted a laptop for it’s obvious portability. After years of owning desktop computers, I was tired of being chained to a desk all the time. Our old computer (over 6 years old) is located downstairs, which is fine if my husband and daughter were also down there watching TV or whatever. But if they were upstairs, I felt selfish being downstairs by myself.
In addition to growing tired of a desktop computer, I had also grown tired of PCs. I can’t count the number of times I’ve had to do system restore and system recovery on the PCs I’ve owned because of spyware and viruses getting into my computer. The time I’ve spent recovering them has easily add up to not hours, but DAYS. My research on Apple computers told me Macs aren’t as susceptible to spyware and viruses because there aren’t as many Mac owners versus PC owners. So the jerks who make and spread these viruses (they should seriously be prosecuted!) aren’t interest in the smaller Mac audience. Good!
So while I’m happy to finally own a laptop and one that is the well respected Apple brand, I’m also tickled pink to have a new computer that has some speed to it again. The 6 year old desktop PC wasn’t cutting it anymore and was about to be sent to its death out the downstairs window. I haven’t done this even after the laptop purchase, by the way, but it was very tempting. Besides, my husband is happy to use to old one since he’s not on it very much.
So after two weeks of ownership, the MacBook is still one of the best purchases I have ever made. I love being able to sit anywhere in the house and use it. Many mornings I’ll sit on my bed after I’m gotten ready for the workday, boot up the computer in less than 2 minutes and be ready to do a few quick emails or Facebook and Twitter posts, all while watching the sunrise from my bedroom window. I love it!
In summary, I highly recommend the MacBook for people who aren’t looking for a big clunky laptop. The 13″ screen is just perfect for me. While the three hour battery life goes quickly, the MacBook comes with a 12′ power cord that is plenty long enough. I also love the Macbook’s trackpad which is MUCH bigger than those on the PC laptops. While I have quickly adjusted to not having a mouse, I did buy a wireless Logitech mouse today for when I’m sitting at a table. Still, it’s really not needed. The trackpad is that good on the MacBook. Also, since my computer usage is basically 99.9% Internet use, the Apple sales clerks recommended the MacBook’s standard 2.0GHz processor, 2GB memory and 160GB hard drive, saying it would be plenty of speed and memory. After a couple weeks of very heavy usage, they were absolutely correct. The Apple MacBook is absolutely perfect for me.
LESSON LEARNED: Follow your desires. In my case, wanting a laptop.

I went for a laptop this time as well, though I was already on a Mac. I had planned to get a new desktop and only reluctantly got a laptop as I needed one for professional reasons. Now that I can run my 30″ desktop monitor off of the graphics card in my 17″ MacBook Pro, I have the best of both worlds. I’m glad to know that you are also a happy new Mac laptop owner.
cheers,
Chris
I’ve had Apples for twelve years. I love them. Currently, I use the MacBook. Congrats on your fine purchase! I know you’ll continue to be thrilled with new purchase.
